Mindful Moments

Whether you need a study break or a stress break, enjoy the mindful moments from Catawba's campus below:

Favorite Places to Relax

Here are some of Catawba's favorite places to relax and chill:

  • Ecological Preserve

Our 189-acre ecological preserve features trails, has access to the Salisbury Greenway, and is home to a diverse population of fascinating plants and animals.

  • Stanback Plaza & Hedrick Terrace

With solar havens, tables and chairs, tiered seating, a fountain, and plenty of sun or shade, Stanback Plaza is ideally located in the heart of campus.

  • Chapel Circle

The circle, lawn, and grounds of Omwake-Dearborn Chapel are a favorite destination for a walk or break, always providing some of Catawba's most beautiful views.

  • Lilly Center Coffeehouse

Work or relax in the place where coffee, tea, and cookies are free! Get comfy on one of the couches, put in your earphones and enjoy music or video, play a board game, or read a book.

  • Abernethy Quad

Whether you prefer sun or shade, Abernethy Quadrangle is a great place to chill, read a book, play cornhole, or just kick back and relax on the lawn adjacent to S-R Hall, the student center, and Abernethy Village.

  • At the Beach (Courts)

Kick off your shoes and enjoy a little sand between your toes while you take a breather at the beach volleyball courts in the Pridgen Intramurals Area. Or, if time permits, shoot some hoops on the basketball court nearby.

  • Holmes Plaza

Looking for a great place to take in the scenery and relax for a bit? Head over to the front of Hedrick Admin Building where the flagpoles are. You may find it surprisingly serene.

  • Oliver's Way

Take a stroll down to Oliver's Way for a moment of serene beauty filled with indigenous plants and grass and graced by a tall central fountain and benches.

  • Library

Corriher-Linn-Black Library is full of wonderful places to kick back and find some quiet time. Outfitted with comfy, portable furniture where you can work, read, or chill, the library is always a good bet!
