Cultivate Your Knowledge of Spanish Language and Culture While Gaining a Competitive Edge in the Workforce

Spanish is the world’s second most spoken language, and it is increasingly becoming a commonly spoken first and second language in the U.S. Catawba College students who study a foreign language improve their employment prospects in the global, domestic, and local workforce as companies everywhere increasingly seek to hire those with multiple language proficiency.

Catawba College undergraduates who pursue a degree in Spanish focus on cultivating advanced language skills with additional work in literature, culture, society, and more. Internships, service work and experiential learning opportunities involving the local Spanish-speaking population help cement knowledge of this modern foreign language for Catawba College Spanish majors.

Spanish undergraduate students have been tapped to serve as translators for local non-profits, such as the Mission of Mercy (MOM) free Dental Clinic, or as tutors of public school students for whom English is a second language. In this major, you’ll learn to speak Spanish, but you’ll also be provided with a solid, rewarding liberal arts studies foundation through experience.

Program Details

I decided to study Spanish because I had always wanted to travel. My time at Catawba College prepared me as much as possible for that. The professors, the classes, couldn’t have been any better. Learning Spanish has opened so many doors for me. I lived in Spain, and I’m going back soon. In the future, I plan on learning more languages and going on to get my PhD. Without Catawba, and more specifically help from the departmental staff, I honestly doubt that any of that would have been possible. If you love traveling, or have always wanted to learn a language, do it. For me, it’s been one of the best decisions of my life.
