In the city of Greensboro, Catawba College alumnus Kendrick Mayes '12 is known as "The Good News Man." For his efforts and inspiring attitude, he was recently featured in AIM Magazine, a quarterly publication of the Local Government Federal Credit Union.
Mayes found his niche with the city of Greensboro, holding a series of positions in local government that have allowed him to plan and promote some of the largest community events in North Carolina. HIs passion for connecting communities and people is apparent through his friendly demeanor and positive, can-do attitude.
“The good [thing] about my role is the daily opportunity to make a positive and lasting difference in the lives of others,” says Mayes. “Identifying the ‘what’s next’ motivates me because I want to maximize my time in [this] position and make the largest impact on the city of Greensboro that I can.”
For Mayes, relating to people comes naturally. Growing up, his parents always encouraged him to see life through an optimistic and positive lens. As a child, he learned that determination and a positive attitude can make all the difference when facing adversity. Now in his early 30s, he continues to live by those basic principles.
Mayes graduated from Catawba College in 2012 as a Therapeutic Recreation major and Psychology minor. He holds a master's degree in recreation administration from North Carolina Central University.
