Catawba students are being accepted by major institutions and being awarded amazing summer research experiences for undergraduates (REU) opportunities that will prepare them for the future.

REUs enable students to work in a research lab side-by-side expert researchers to develop technical skills and find solutions to current scientific problems. A few such experiences include:

  • Sydney Goertzen was selected for the Summer Biomedical Research Program for Undergraduates at the Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina University.
  • George Mitchell Harris will be at UNC- Charlotte this summer to do biochemical research.

Harris

Goertzen
  • Giovanni Quiroz Delfi will be going to Florida State University for lab research experience.

“This REU is a great accomplishment for me because of how competitive it is to be accepted by one, and because it will help me improve as a student and give me a boost to achieve my career goals," says Delfi. "The REU will provide me with research experience in a lab environment and give me the opportunity to see if I enjoy working in that field. It will also give me the experience needed for future M.D. and Ph.D. applications.”

Congratulations to all Catawba College students who will be participating in amazing research and creative related programs in Summer 2019! If you are doing something cool this summer, email Dr. Carrie Graham so we can celebrate you.
