Catawba College Professor of Political Science Dr. J. Michael Bitzer was recently featured on the IndependentTribute.com website. Bitzer was asked to comment on the topic of the possible new representative that Cabarrus County  could gain in the N.C. House if the proposed legislative district changes are approved.

"These maps also solidify power in urban and suburban districts," said Bitzer.  "Counties like Cabarrus and Union, they are certainly coming up in stature."

Bitzer added that Cabarrus, Union and Gaston counties would have three House representatives each under the new district maps. "We're seeing the spill-over effect from Mecklenburg County," Bitzer said.
