Likely most are familiar with the adage, “That was then, this is now.”  But likely the saying has never been more appropriate than when speaking about Ol’ Sport, a band comprised of Catawba College alumni and current students.

The four-person band was formed at Catawba through the college’s Artist Development Program (ADP) in the Spring of 2015 under the moniker of “Old Sport”. Then band members Ben Bradford ’18 (vocals/guitar) of Poland Springs, Maine; Leith Ali ’19 (guitar) of Charlotte; Liam Pendergrass ’18 (bass) of Salisbury; and Kyler Brown ’17 (drums) of Salisbury collaborate to release a debut single, “Lemonade” in February of 2016.

Flash forward to now and “Old Sport” has evolved into “Ol’ Sport”.  All of the band’s original members remain in place except for the bass player.  Romeo Schneider ’21 of Raleigh is pulling those strings in 2017.  And, the band has another debut album/EP, “Grass Stains,” released in July and available online at Spotify, Apple Music, and You Tube. Take a listen or obtain a physical copies of the new EP at the bands website: olsportnc.bandcamp.com.

In addition to the EP release, Ol’ Sport spent some time over the past year playing gigs in Charlotte’s alternative rock scene and other locations on the East Coast.  Ol’ Sport shared the stage with bands like Slothrust, Brigades, Backpacks, Bogues and Casey Bolles.

Fans who have missed the opportunity to hear Ol’ Sport have several opportunities this fall to do so on these dates and locations:
