Ken Burger spent almost 40 years writing for two South Carolina newspapers, a career that included stints covering sports, business, politics and life in the Palmetto State. While writing sports for The Post and Courier in Charleston, Burger won numerous statewide awards and was thrice named one of the nation's best sports columnists. In 1996, he was recognized as "South Carolina Journalist of the Year." He capped his journalism career with a popular metro column for the Charleston paper before retiring in 2011.
Burger's first novel, "Swallow Savannah," appeared in 2008, followed by "Sister Santee" in 2010. Both novels were touted as among the best in Southern fiction by the Independent Publishers Association. His most recent novel, "Salkehatchie Soup," appeared in March of 2013.
Born and raised in Allendale, South Carolina, Burger brags that he "graduated dead last in his class at the University of Georgia, has been married five times, is a gratefully recovering alcoholic, a cancer survivor, and a happy man." At this presentation, you'll hear Burger's stories about growing up in small-town South Carolina. You'll laugh. You'll cry. You'll be a better person.
It all takes place at the Catawba College Community Forum on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. in Tom Smith Auditorium of Ralph W. Ketner Hall. Admission, as always, is free.
