KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
Dr. Matthew Sleeth
Dr. Sleeth, a former emergency room doctor and hospital chief of staff, became concerned about the environment when he encountered an increase in environmentally related illnesses in his patients. Returning to the scriptural lessons of personal responsibility, simplicity and stewardship, he and his family sold their big home and gave away more than half of what they once owned. He wrote Serve God and Save the Planet: A Christian Call to Action and now serves as the director of A Rocha USA, a Christian nature conservation organization.
Gary Gardner
Mr. Gardner is the director of research at Worldwatch Institute, a leading source on the interactions among key environmental, social and economic trends. Its work focuses on the transition to an environmentally sustainable and social just society and ways to achieve this goal. Mr. Gardner is the author of the Worldwatch paper “Invoking the Spirit: Religion and Spirituality in the Quest for a Sustainable World.” His speaking engagements have taken him to the World Food Summit in Rome and the International Society of Environmental Journalists in Bogota, Colombia. He frequently does radio, television and print interviews with worldwide media outlets, including the BBC, CNN and the Voice of America.
The Rev. Sally Bingham
Ms. Bingham is a priest in the Episcopal Diocese of California, environmental minister at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco and originator of Episcopal Power and Light, the model for Interfaith Power and Light. She has been chair of the Episcopal Diocesan Commission for the Environment for the past eight years and active in the environmental community for 20 years. She is the founder and executive director of The Regeneration Project, an award-winning non-profit ministry that focuses on a response to global climate change.

- To convene faith and environmental leaders for the exploration of environmental issues and the scriptural mandate to care for God’s creation. ;
- To bring together people of diverse faiths to promote dialogue and strategies to address the environmental challenges we face. ;
- To provide education on global, regional and personal environmental challenges and demonstrate how they are connected. ;
- To equip participants with the education and tools necessary to effect change toward sustainability in their civic and faith communities as well as their personal lives. ;
- To inspire participants to assume leadership roles in their churches/temples and communities in developing innovative solutions to environmental challenges.
The forum/conference is part of the Center’s Annual Sustainable Communities Conference Series.
