Catawba College's Downtown Catawba will be open from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 18 as part of Earth Night Out activities in downtown Salisbury. Two bands comprised of Catawba students will offer a free performance in front of the space located at 100 West Innes Street, Suite 103 and the public is invited to stop by and take a look and have a listen.
Performing first in the 5-7 p.m. time slot is The Olivia Albertson Band that plays music "spirited with the soul of the South." Olivia, a senior music major from Thomasville, performs vocals and plays guitar, accompanied by band members Nathan Riddle, a junior honors music major from Kannapolis; Pen Chance, a senior theatre arts administration major from Augusta, Ga.; and Greg Moore, a junior music major from Durham. Together, they create music they describe as "the soundtrack to the perfect Southern night, complete with pure vocals and Southern country influence."
From 7-9 p.m., four members of Life Size, a pop/rock band made up of Catawba College students, will perform at Downtown Catawba. Listeners can expect to hear elements of folk, pop, rock and blues highlighted by creative vocal harmonies as Life Size members croon from their debut release, "Mockingbird Alarmclock EP." Life Size members on hand will include Jake Martin (Vocals/Guitar) of St. Louis, Mo.; Allijah Motika (Vocals/Guitar/Piano) of Asheville; Tevin Carr (Drums) of Statesville; and Greg Moore (Bass/Vocals) of Durham.
The Olivia Albertson Band
Life Size members wrap their set at Downtown Catawba before heading over to another downtown Salisbury location on Friday, April 18. A street over from Downtown Catawba, Life Size will play at Uncle Buck's from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. that evening.
The Olivia Albertson Band also has more bookings, including a performance in the VIP Lounge at the Lady Antebellum concert at the PNC Music Pavilion in Charlotte on April 26, and Albertson's senior showcase performance in Hedrick Little Theatre on the Catawba College campus on May 3, preceding a Vernaculars performance.

Downtown Catawba opened April 8th and college officials hope the space will help enhance and strengthen Catawba's ties with the Salisbury community. The space features Admissions information as well as the latest on athletic, theatre and music events (and the opportunity to buy tickets for these). Catawba clothing and related items are also available for purchase.
Downtown Catawba hours are 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays through the end of May with special open hours during Friday Nights Out, beginning with the April 18th Earth Night Out and continuing with the May 9th Spring Night Out.
