Mrs. Frances “Billy” Hedrick Johnson of Salisbury, N.C., a Catawba College trustee emerita who served on the Board of Trustees from 1984-2000, died Sunday, September 25 at The Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks.

Born March 2, 1920 in Guilford County, N.C., to the late Burl Vance Hedrick and Daisy Harris Hedrick, she was a graduate of Boyden High School. Mrs. Johnson graduated from Duke University and was a forever Duke.

Mrs. Johnson was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Starling Johnson, Jr. on April 6, 1982 and son Allen Starling Johnson, III on May 4, 1997.

Surviving are her daughters, Judy Johnson, Kathryn Johnson and her husband John Strickland, and Joanne Johnson all of Salisbury, NC; two grandchildren: Starling Johnson Kaklamanos and husband Aaron; and Hedrick Strickland; and one step-granddaughter, Brandy Strickland Downs and her husband Zach and their daughter, Kari Downs.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, September 29 at First United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Mark Conforti and Rev. Fred Jordan. The family would like to share stories and memories following the service with friends in the church fellowship hall.
