Marching bands from Rowan and surrounding counties will converge on Catawba College’s campus beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 7 to participate in the 2006 Lord Salisbury Marching Band Classic.

To date, nine marching bands from area school systems have registered to participate in the competition. They include Walter M. Williams High School, Burlington; Vance High School, Charlotte-Mecklenburg; West Iredell High School, Iredell; Mooresville High School, Iredell; North Rowan High School, Rowan; Jesse Carson High School, Rowan; Porter Ridge High School, Union; and Ledford High School, Davidson.

The bands will be categorized according to size division — smallest to largest (A; AA; AAA; and AAAA), according to the number of wind instruments in each. The major adjudicated captions are in Music Execution, Marching Execution, and General Effect. The small adjudicated captions are in Drum Major, Percussion and Colorguard/Auxiliary Units. Each size division will be eligible for first or second place awards in all of the categories.

The contest will begin with the National Anthem performed by Catawba College music majors. Awards will be presented at 2 p.m. at the conclusion of the competition.

Concessions, including grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, soft drinks, bottled water, candies, popcorn and other items, will be on sale throughout the event. Programs containing information about each band and its personnel will also be available for sale.

General admission seating is $5 per adults (13 and older), $2.50 for children (6-12), and free to Catawba College students with a student ID.

For more details or to register bands for competition, contact Dr. Steve Etters in the Catawba College Department of Music at (704) 637-4476.
