Using a contemporary translation and evocative original music, the Catawba College Theatre Arts Department will present Euripides' "Trojan Women" at 7:30 p.m. April 5-8 in Keppel Auditorium on campus.

Called one of the greatest anti-war plays ever written, this Greek tragedy is set in the aftermath of the Trojan War.   The women of Troy who neither started nor carried on the war, must deal with its consequences.   They remain in the ruins of their country, enslaved by the conquering Greeks and awaiting an uncertain fate.

Euripides presents a deeply thought-provoking and complex play about the role of women in war.   The play raises questions that are extremely relevant today: "Why war now?" "Why is that the only way to solve problems?" and "What happens to women during and after war?"

Cast members include junior Jordan Richards of Hendersonville as Poseidon; sophomore Candace Neal of Waxhaw as Helen;   senior Tiffany Cox of O'Fallon, Ill., as Andromache; sophomore Jeremy Kinser of Matthews, as Talthybius; senior Briana Raymond of Spring Hill, Fla., as Cassandra; senior Nick Ditter of New Berlin, Wis., as Menelaus; sophomore Brianna Smith of Austin, Texas, as Hecuba; junior Caitlin Heinen of Wauwatosa, Wis., as Pius XI; sophomore Sarah Koemer of Rocky Mount, as Athena; sophomore Daniel Hines of Yorktown, Va., freshman Matthew Jamison of Salisbury, sophomore Robbie Farlow of Archdale, and freshman Robert Jenkins of Kill Devil Hills as guards;   Members of the Chorus include junior Jessica Taige of Wauwatosa, Wis., junior Jes Dugger of Gainesville, Fla., junior Danielle Papet of Glassboro, N.J., freshman Holly Porcase of Jacksonville, Fla., junior Amy Guenther of Asheville, junior Prisca Hinkley of Salona, Kansas, freshman Jessica Barker of Tampa, Fla., freshman Gracie Greenbaum of Tolland, Conn., and freshman Katharine Goforth of Charlotte.
