Heading back to school is an exciting time for college students, but new environments and experiences can put students at risks for potentially dangerous situations. Increased violence on campus is a harsh reality. College-aged students are at the highest risk of being sexually assaulted, often by someone they know. The first steps in staying safe are recognizing the risks and being proactive.

So on September 24, Catawba College will be proactive in hosting our first RAINN (Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network) Day events from 11am-1pm on the Stanback Plaza. As part of the day, there will be activities for the campus community to raise awareness on sexual violence.

RAINN is the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization. RAINN created and operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline (800-656 HOPE or online at www.rainn.org).

From September 14-30, we will help to bring the conversation about sexual assault to the forefront of campus through #TalkToRAINN coffee sleeves, featuring the National Sexual Assault Hotline. The coffee sleeves are an easy way to “Jump Start” this important conversation. So come by, get your coffee, and use social media to spark the conversation and extend it beyond our campus borders!

Sponsored by students as part of Catawba’s Wellness Promotion.
