Rashad Smith of Salisbury, Associate Dean of Admissions at Catawba College, was recently inducted into the East Rutherford High School Hall of Fame. Smith, a 1996 graduate of East Rutherford High, participated in football and track and field there.

He was a varsity football starter during his sophomore, junior and senior years at East Rutherford, playing on the defensive line and serving on special teams.  He was named All-Conference in 1995 and 1996, Mr. Cavalier in 1996, 1996 Male Athlete of the Year, and earned Best All-Around Senior Superlative.

In track and field at East Rutherford, Smith’s specialties were shot put and discus.  He was voted the County Meet MVP in 1995 and 1996, earned the Rutherford County Discus Throw Record, and with the discus throw, became a 1995 State Finalist and a 1996 Regional Finalist.

Smith came to Catawba on a football scholarship and earned his degree in 2001.  He and wife Tiffany are parents of daughter Tamia.
