Catawba College alumnus Patrick Parr '03 will publish his first book, The Seminarian: Martin Luther King Jr. Comes of Age, on April 1, 2018. The biography is exclusively about King's years in seminary (1948-1951).

In Fall 2017, Parr published an article in Japan Today about Martin Luther King Jr.'s near-visit to Japan in 1968 after he wrote a letter addressing the people of Japan on December 13, 1967.

At Catawba, Parr majored in Literature with an emphasis in Creative Writing and loved his time at his alma mater. He recalls fond memories of Dr. Janice Fuller's classes and shares that Dr. Gary Freeze's American History course had a profound impact on the way he looked at the 20th century.

Parr's work has appeared in The Japan Times, Kyoto Journal and History Today, among others.
