Candidate Forums Slated at Catawba College on October 23rd

In a special edition of the Catawba College Community Forum, the College, together with the Salisbury Post and the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce, will present candidates for the North Carolina General Assembly, along with candidates for the Rowan County Commission on Thursday, October 23 in Hedrick Little Theatre in the Robertson College-Community Center. 

Candidates for the State House and State Senate races will speak from 6:00 to 7:15 p.m., followed by a short break, and then County Commission candidates will take the stage from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.  Dr. Michael Bitzer, Associate Professor of History and Politics at Catawba College, will moderate.  The format will be two minutes per candidate for opening remarks, followed by questions presented by the moderator with two minutes for each candidate to respond.

Participating will be candidates for North Carolina Senate District 34: William Anderson Burnette, Democrat, and Andrew C. Brock, Republican.  Also appearing are candidates for North Carolina House District 77: Lorene Thomason Coates, Democrat, and Ada Markita Fisher, Republican.  Four candidates for the Rowan County Commission will join in the second session: Democrats Raymond D. Coltrain and Laura Ruth Lyerly, and Republicans Carl Ford and Jim Sides.

Make plans now to attend one or both of these candidate presentations on Thursday, October 23, 2008, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in Hedrick Little Theatre in the Robertson College-Community Center on the campus of Catawba College. Admission, as always, is free.
