Catawba College Provost and Professor of Politics Dr. J. Michael Bitzer was featured on The Wall Street Journal website discussing how new North Carolina residents are reshaping the election landscape.

According to July voter data analyzed by Bitzer, among people born in North Carolina, 44% are registered as Democrats, 31% as Republicans and 24% as unaffiliated. For those living in North Carolina but born in New York, the top out-of-state birthplace, 40% are Democrats, 26% are Republicans and 34% are unaffiliated. Residents born in other states are more likely to be registered as independents than those born in North Carolina, his figures show.
