As Rep. Fred Steen aims for a place in Congress, several  people have subtly begun to set their sights on his State House office, including Democrat John Williams and County Commissioner Carl Ford.   Dr. J. Michael Bitzer, political science professor at Catawba College, was recently featured in a Salisbury Post article discussing the matter.

Bitzer says a Democrat will have a hard time winning the 76th district. "On average, over the past two election cycles, it has voted Republican by (a margin of) 15 percent," he said. "That's a pretty safe Republican seat."
