Catawba College Provost, professor of politics and political expert Dr. J. Michael Bitzer was featured in a Citizen Times article discussing the tough odds the Moral Monday protest movement will face in November.

Bitzer said the Democrats will be successful if they can break the GOP super majority, stating that would show a trend of power going their way and set up for more gains in 2016 with a possible gubernatorial bid by Democratic Attorney General Roy Cooper.

"Democrats have to take the long view because the Republicans were so able to redistrict the state to their benefit," he said. "There are very few what we call swing districts across the state."

Bitzer noted that in the Senate, there are eight swing districts with two having open seats and the other held by Republicans.
