Catawba Alumna Lauren Ebersole '07 is headed for her next great adventure and this one will last more than two years (27 months to be exact). She is on her way to East Java, Indonesia on a Peace Corps assignment to teach English to high school students.

Lauren taught in Ghana for two months the year following her graudation from Catawba (January–March 2008) through a group called Cosmic Volunteers, accompanied by fellow alumna, Kelly Fearman. When she returned to the States, she drove across the country, stopping to visit family and friends along the way, to work in a political campaign in Nevada between July and November of 2008.  Since then, she had worked for Star Community in Hagerstown, Md., an organization for developmentally disabled adults.

Lauren's Peace Corps' adventure began March 15th with two days of orientation before departing for Indonesia.  Her first three months on this assignment will be spent receiving training in the language and customs. Thereafter, she will spend two years of service.

Lauren, who was a political science major with a emphasis in international relations at Catawba, says her Dad is very anxious to plan a vacation to Thailand, Vietnam and Australia, while her mom is a little less enthusiastic about it due to the distance.

She will share periodic updates about her assignment, in her blog:
