Nicole Durant '09 could not have predicted upon graduation that she would have success and some fun while promoting the "As Seen on TV Hat."

Nicole, who is currently living in Asheville, N.C., works at a local restaurant there while pursuing her dream [of acting] in her spare time. She shared her experience in landing the job as the young woman in the "As Seen on TV hat" and her comments follow in the first-person.

"They asked me if I would be interested in acting in the infomercial for the "As Seen on TV" hat and I said, 'Absolutely!' On the set, I kind of asked the owner if they had someone in mind for the box/packaging and he looked at me and said, 'Now we do!' It definitely pays to be outgoing.

"When I agreed to do the job, I had no idea just how far the product would go. Don't get me wrong, I believed in it...but you just never know. Any who, I ended up with an all-expense paid weeklong trip to Vegas, attending the CES (Consumer Electronic Show), which turned out to be one of the best times of my life. I saw so many amazing products. The "As Seen on TV Hat," the product we took, sold like hot cakes. Everyone wanted one. I even gave one to the actor Sinbad and one to his son!

"We did so well at the CES, the owner asked me to go with him to the Toy Fair in New York this February and told me to definitely block out my schedule for next year's CES. I'm definitely looking forward to the future of the "TV Hat."

"My trip to Vegas would not have been the same if I hadn't contacted Catawba alumnus Jason Duke (class of '96). When I found out I was going to Vegas, I just happen to read the last issue of the CAMPUS, Catawba's alumni magazine and saw the Spotlight on Jason Duke.

I took a chance, e-mailed Margaret Faust, and thank goodness, Jason was up for meeting me as well! My boyfriend and I attended the Beatles LOVE Cirque Show and had a wonderful behind the scenes tour given by Jason. Jason made sure to show us the "real" Vegas (Fremont Street), where I unfortunately learned how to play craps. Needless to say, I would definitely recommend contacting a fellow alum.
