For the Hrinsins, the scholarship reflects their own Catawba story. Both were first-generation college students and scholarship recipients whose financial support helped make attending Catawba possible. Both went on to build careers in accounting and information systems, making the opportunity to support future Ketner School students especially meaningful.
“The generosity of others made our Catawba experience possible, and we hope this scholarship will do the same for future students,” the Hrinsins said.
The Hrinsins credit their time at Catawba with preparing them not only for their careers but also for the lives they would build together. They met as students, developed friendships that remain part of their extended family, and found faculty members who challenged them to think critically, ask thoughtful questions, listen to others, and approach problems with purpose.
Professors including Ken Clapp, Charlie McAllister, Bill Trenchard, and Ben Baker were among those who made a lasting impression, sharing not only their knowledge but also modeling the values and sense of purpose they carried into their own lives and careers.
“Catawba taught us more than just how to secure a job,” they said. “It taught us how to ask good questions, listen to others, solve problems, and participate in educated discourse. Our hope is to bless others the way we were blessed so many years ago.”
Nate joined Catawba’s Board of Visitors in 2025, deepening the couple’s engagement with the College. As they considered how they could give back to a community that had invested in them, establishing an endowed scholarship provided an opportunity to contribute both their time and their resources.
The Hrinsins also hope their gift encourages others to consider the role they can play in Catawba’s future. Gifts at every level strengthen the collective impact of the College’s endowment, creating lasting resources that expand opportunities for students today and for generations to come.
The Hrinsin Family Endowed Scholarship will provide ongoing support for Ketner School of Business students, helping future students pursue the same kinds of opportunities that helped Nate and Amy discover their own pathways forward at Catawba.
