Catawba College adds Uwill at a time when student mental health has become a forefront issue in the higher education space, especially in the growing world of online learning. Many schools offer on-campus counseling; however, providing support to online students across the country can be difficult with state licensing restrictions.
“As online education continues to transform, students are facing unique challenges, including social isolation and difficulties in managing work-life balance,” said Mary Beth Messner, Assistant Provost at Catawba College. “Uwill allows us to provide mental health support tailored to both the on-campus and the online learning environment, which is crucial to ensure students' well-being and academic success.”
Recent survey data shows that 90% of adults believe the country is facing a mental health crisis. While 42% of college students have expressed the need for help with mental health difficulties in the last year, more than 60% have never received counseling or therapy.
While Uwill is being added to support online students, on-campus students will also be able to utilize this solution, representing how important these options are for all students. According to recent survey data of American college students, face-to-face counseling was utilized by 9.9% of the students surveyed, while telehealth/online counseling was utilized by 16%.
“With the rise in online learning and the increase in mental health difficulties in higher education, online students and in-person students alike can benefit from the wide range of options presented by teletherapy providers," said Michael London, Founder and CEO of Uwill. "These options allow online students to connect with someone licensed in their state, while both online and on-campus students can find a provider they can relate to at a deeper level."
Uwill pioneered the first student and therapist matching platform using its proprietary technology and counselor team. The solution offers an immediate appointment with a licensed counselor based on student preferences, all modalities of teletherapy, a direct crisis connection, wellness events, real-time data, and support. Uwill serves over 2 million students from all 50 states at institutions including the American Public University System, Metropolitan State University of Denver, Princeton University, and University of Alabama - Online.
