Catawba College Theatre Arts and The Blue Masque Present No Exit

Catawba College Theatre Arts and the Blue Masque present a production of No Exit on October 4th and 5th at 7:30 pm and October 6th at 2:30 pm in the Florence Busby Corriher Experimental Theatre on Catawba's campus.

No Exit is a 1944 existentialist play by French playwright Jean-Paul Sartre. This chilling play takes place in a hideous room in Hell, where two women and one man are locked up together for all eternity. The three characters are forced to face judgment from other people and themselves. They find that at the hands of one another, they face torture worse than they had previously expected. There are no mirrors, the electric lights can never be turned off, and there is no exit.

The Blue Masque is the oldest student-led organization on Catawba’s campus. The program predates the theatre department at Catawba and has presented student-directed, designed, and produced plays each year for nearly 100 years. Last season featured two productions: Natural Shocks by Lauren Gunderson in the fall and Alabaster by Audrey Cefaly in the spring. This season features three productions: No ExitThe Revolutionists by Lauren Gunderson, and Breadcrumbs by Jennifer Haley.

No Exit is directed by senior Zac Hunter. Junior Teresa Greene will design the set, sophomore Zoë Logan will design the costumes, and junior Malachi Williams will design the lights. The cast features four students: junior Evan Moreno as Joseph Garcin, senior Sarah Bedini as Inez Serrano, and first-year Katie Sosa and Teddy LePage as Estelle Rigault and the Valet, respectively. The crew includes Camden Trimmer, Autumn Perkins, Corey Rice, and Aslyn Goodwin.

“No Exit is going to be an immersive, thought-provoking experience,” says Hunter. “You’re going to be transported to Hell, and watch these characters fight amongst themselves and discover what Hell is really like.”

Tickets are $15 for adults 18-55, $10 for adults 55+ and non-Catawba students, and $5 for Catawba students, faculty, and staff. You can get your tickets online at https://catawba.edu/theatretix/. All proceeds support the Blue Masque. All tickets are general admission.
