Catawba College Introduces the Harry J. Kloos Scholarship Fund

Catawba College proudly announces the establishment of the Harry J. Kloos Scholarship Fund, generously created by Sydney White Kloos, a distinguished alumna of the Class of 1959. This scholarship is a heartfelt tribute to her late husband, Harry, also a member of the Class of 1959, honoring his memory and their shared commitment to education.

Sydney and Harry dedicated themselves to teaching, collectively amassing nearly eight decades of service in education. Harry concluded his esteemed career as an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Camden County College in Blackwood, NJ after 39 years of molding young minds. Sydney also retired as a high school teacher. Together, they raised two children, John and Sandra, and left an indelible mark on the lives of countless students.

The Harry J. Kloos Scholarship is more than a token of remembrance, but also a testament to the Kloos family's deep-seated connection to education and Catawba College. Sydney benefited from scholarships during her time as a student, and now, she extends that same support to future generations of scholars.

"Catawba College holds a special place in our hearts," said Sydney White Kloos. "Establishing this new scholarship is our way of honoring Harry's legacy and giving back to an institution that played a pivotal role in shaping our lives. We hope that through this scholarship, we can inspire and support aspiring educators in their academic pursuits."

Preference for the scholarship will be given to students demonstrating financial need, with a major in mathematics. Students Interested in a double major or minor in education and hailing from outside North Carolina will receive priority consideration.

This new scholarship serves as a beacon of opportunity for deserving students, embodying the spirit of generosity and dedication to education that defines the Catawba community.
