Amber White, a 2021 graduate of the Catawba College’s Goodman School of Education, was recently named the 2022-2023 Rowan-Salisbury Schools (RSS) Beginning Teacher of the Year. White, a second-year teacher at China Grove Middle School, teaches eighth grade mathematics.

"Catawba’s Education program made my transition into my teaching position at China Grove Middle School easier, and I have never felt more prepared,” said White. “Thank you to all of my professors, who filled me with the knowledge and ability to become the teacher I am. I truly appreciate them and the time they spent helping me. I will never forget all they have done.”

Dr. Christina Azmy, who served as faculty supervisor for White, added, “Amber’s passion for teaching math and love for her students is such a gift to the world of math education. It is because of teachers like Amber, that future generations will see themselves as mathematicians. Amber is the model of growing and learning for and with her students. I am so proud of her accomplishment!”
