1. Make a Design 

You can make your own design using the following free software with a free account:

• TinkerCad (web-based; beginner)
  
• SketchUp (web-based; intermediate)
  
• Fusion 360 (download with student email; intermediate)
• Blender (download; advanced)

You can also find pre-existing models via Thingiverse , Printables, Thangs, Cults3D, PinShape, or NIH 3D.

TIP: Make sure you save your file as an .stl or .obj extension.

2. Print Your Design

• Come by the DLL, slice your file and print it on one of the available printers (printers are available as first-come-first-served)

3. Pick Up Your Design

• Come by the DLL to pick up your items 
• If your model has supports, you will need to remove them. We have tools to help with that process

Materials for academic/personal projects are free to students, faculty, and staff. 

Lists of materials are specified for each equipment (3D Printer, Laser Engraver, Cricut)

We have materials/tools for generic use listed below:

• Paint and brushes
• Colored Pencils and Markers
• Glue (Hobby, stick, wood, hot glue, and super)
• Prototyping materials (straws, paper, plates, clothespins, paperclips, binder clips, popsicle sticks, cups)
• Pliers and scissors

Bringing Your Own Materials
All materials you supply must be verified for safety and compatibility. If you plan to use your own materials for the Laser Engraver and Cricut, they must be safe to use with our equipment. Please talk to a DLL Student Technician if you would like to purchase your own material, and we can provide a list of vendors that have compatible materials.  

1. The library's 3D printers may only be used for lawful purposes. No one is permitted to create material that is:
   
   • Prohibited by local, state, or federal law.
   • Considered a weapon
     • It is against College policy to possess weapons (concealed or otherwise) on the College campus. This can be defined as any illegal or unauthorized possession of firearms, explosives, other weapons or dangerous chemicals on College premises or use of any such item, even if legally possessed, in a manner that harms, threatens or causes fear to others. 
     • Examples include, but are not limited to; guns, rifles, pistols, bullets, explosives, BB guns, airsoft guns, paint pellet guns, bow and arrows, slingshots, knives, daggers, knuckles, throwing stars, etc. Read the policy here. 
   • Unsafe, harmful, dangerous, or poses an immediate threat to the wellbeing of others.
   • Obscene or otherwise inappropriate for the library environment.
   • Considered smoking and Drug Paraphernalia  
     • Making and modification of drug paraphernalia and smoking/vaping products is prohibited in the DLL. Read the policy here. 
   • In violation of another's intellectual property rights. For example, you cannot reproduce material subject to copyright, patent, or trademark protection.
2. The library reserves the right to refuse any 3D print request.
3. The library cannot guarantee model quality or stability, nor confidentiality of designs. Responsibility for removing rafts and supports is up to the user.
4. Items must be picked up by the individual who submitted them or their designee. Items not picked up within 10 days after being printed become the property of the Digital Learning Lab.
