Health Center

The clinic is staffed throughout the week and also offers on-campus hours:

REGISTERED NURSE HOURS:

• MONDAY-FRIDAY: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm            
  Existing standing orders will also be in place for the nurses to treat your illness.

NURSE PRACTITIONER HOURS:   

• MONDAY-THURSDAY: 9 am-1 pm (No appointment necessary)
  
  
• Allergy Shots:
  MONDAY-THURSDAY:  9 am – 11 am
  There are no exceptions to these hours for allergy shots. A medical provider must be in the Health Center before an allergy injection can be administered.

Catawba College contracts with two Nurse Practitioners to provide services to all full-time students. 

In addition to the on-campus Nurse Practitioner hours, Nurse Practitioners are available during Health Center hours for telephone consultation. Students are also eligible for referral and other medical services at Dr. David Caron's office. Students should contact Health Services to schedule an office visit with Dr. Caron.

All incoming students are required to submit a medical record to the Catawba Health Center prior to arrival on campus. Detailed instructions on how to upload the forms may be found below. Students may submit their immunization records, copy of insurance card, and the health form in the applicant portal.

ALL Catawba College full-time day students are required to have health insurance.

Out-of-state Medicaid is not accepted in North Carolina. All students with out of state Medicaid will be charged for school insurance unless documentation is provided of N.C. coverage.

All international students are REQUIRED to have health insurance that will cover them in N.C. Health Services MUST review and approve all insurance an international student carries prior to being allowed to waive the school insurance.

Signing the Waiver

In order to keep our records up-to-date and your student account accurate, you must submit your Insurance Waiver online. ALL waivers and voluntary enrollment must be completed (annually) on or before September 15th. If no waiver is received by this date, you will automatically be enrolled in the health insurance plan.

Sign the waiver online from a desktop or laptop computer (sorry, mobile devices are not supported).

From the United Healthcare Student Resources' online student center tool, you will be able to complete the  Catawba College Waiver Form with ease. This annual requirement is available to submit electronically. Please read and follow all instructions. Your online waiver is finalized when you click "Submit" and a confirmation approval e-mail is received.

Enrolling

If you wish to enroll in the Student Health Insurance, you may do so online. You will receive a confirmation e-mail of enrollment. You will also be able to access your coverage and insurance card online. For coverage and policy related questions, call United Healthcare at 1-800-767-0700.

Proof of Coverage:
Failure to submit proof of personal coverage by the deadline will result in the student being charged a NON-REFUNDABLE Catawba insurance fee. Catawba-sponsored health insurance covers enrollees from August 1 through the following July 31. All international students will be charged school insurance. An international student is defined as any student who lives outside the borders of the United States.

Important Note about Annual Updates:
Please submit a copy of your insurance card (front & back) AND any other required forms to the Catawba College Student Health Center with each new school year.
