This production celebrates the heart, humor, music, and adventure that audiences cherish while embracing a vibrant theatrical style that nods to the slightly quirky charm of L. Frank Baum’s original tale. With iconic characters, sweeping visual design, and enchanting musical numbers, The Wizard of Oz promises to be a highlight of the season for Salisbury and the surrounding region.
Community Audition Schedule – Wednesday, December 3
- 6:00 PM: Low-Stress Dance Call (required for all auditioners)
- 7:00 PM: Acting/Singing Auditions for Community Performers

What to Expect
All performers will begin with the dance call. Acting and singing auditions will follow for community members. Auditioners should dress comfortably to move and bring appropriate footwear. Those interested in principal roles may be asked to read from the script or sing a brief musical selection.
Casting and Roles
Catawba Theatre Arts is committed to diverse, inclusive casting and encourages performers of all backgrounds, identities, and life experiences to audition. Character ages are guidelines, not requirements, and all roles are open unless otherwise noted.
Principal, ensemble, and specialty roles are available—including Munchkins, Ozians, Poppies, Snowmen, Winkies, Flying Monkeys, and Jitterbugs. Some roles may involve stage flight up to approximately 20 feet.

About the Show
When a Kansas farm girl is swept away to the magical Land of Oz, she embarks on a journey to find her way home. Along the yellow brick road, she encounters unforgettable friends, wicked foes, and a wizard who is not quite what he seems. For audiences who love Wicked, this is the classic story that started it all.
Production Information
Rehearsals begin Monday, February 16, with individual rehearsals scheduled earlier. Performances will take place:
- Friday, April 10 (Opening Night)
- Saturday, April 11
- Sunday, April 12 (Matinée)
