Dr. Aaron Butler, a visiting assistant professor of English and director of the Writing Center at Catawba College, recently made a presentation at the annual conference of the Popular Culture/American Culture Association in the South, which was held October 5-7 in Savannah, Georgia.
Butler's paper was entitled "When Mercy Does Not Season Justice: The Language of Retribution in Law & Order." In the paper, Butler investigated how the language used in this program can affect people's attitudes regarding real-life court cases and regarding the government's actions in investigating people in a post-9/11 world.
