Catawba College’s Healthy Aging Center (HAC)

The Catawba College Healthy Aging Center strives to provide innovative research, strategic resources, and best-practice programs about healthy aging to the college, local, and regional communities. We envision a community where all people age well through health-promoting programs and resources.

The Facts:

  • The number of Americans aged 65 or older is expected to top 71 million by 2040.
    More than double what the older adult population was in 2000.
  • 20% of Americans will be over the age of 65 years by 2030.
    With North Carolina at 23%, a 26% increase from 2012.

Goals of the Healthy Aging Center

  • To implement innovative research on healthy aging through student-centered projects and initiatives. 

  • To provide strategic resources about healthy aging to community members, caregivers, policymakers, and other allied health professionals.

  • To partner with other organizations to provide sustainable programs to promote healthy aging in local and regional communities.

Staying Current

The Healthy Aging Center (HAC) meets quarterly at Catawba College to connect on current issues and trends for aging populations in Rowan and surrounding counties. Taskforces of the HAC work to accomplish specific projects that align with our mission and goals.
