In order to give our Discover participants a chance to connect even more with Catawba’s distinguished faculty during Discover, we have added practical theology tracks, which are a chance for students to explore their faith and calling through the lens of an academic discipline that interests them. When you sign up for Discover, please be sure to indicate your track preference!
Sport Management
In today’s culture few things are more relevant than sport. This reality has not been lost in the Christian community where an incredible emphasis on athletics and sport ministry has been found in local churches, institutions of education, and outreach ministries such as FCA.
The Sport Management DISCOVER track will provide students the opportunity to explore multiple facets of a billion dollar sport industry alongside an investigation of sport from a theological perspective. At the conclusion of the week students will be able to articulate matters of faith and how it impacts their involvement in sport as a fan, athlete, and potential future leader in the sport industry.
Worship Music
Inspiring worship services come from understanding the elements of music making, planning and production. Regardless of your age, experience, or background - tools, skills and strategies will be shared and applied through live hands-on experiences. Catawba College Worship Arts graduates and faculty will make these concepts “come to life” in a fun and interactive setting.
Service and Ministry Leadership
One of the best ways to learn and grow as a Christian leader is through hands on experiences. In the Bible, we see Jesus modeling and lifting up the idea that in order to lead you must first serve.
In the Service and Ministry Leadership track we will explore a theological framework of servant-leadership, including how service is a crucial calling in our lives and how service can help us to engage and wrestle with the issues of our time in a tangible, personal way. How can we contribute, give back, and make a difference through serving God and others? How is God calling us beyond “service projects” to live a life of service and to make meaningful change in our communities? Equipped with theological learnings, students will be given opportunities to learn through hands-on experience by engaging with various local non-profits.
CSI: Catawba Science Inquiries
Many people think that faith and science cannot coexist. What do you think? Can the skills we glean and questions we ask while exploring Chemistry, Biology, and Environmental Science actually enhance our faith? Might you have an investigative nature and be called to a career in the sciences? How could such a career empower you to further explore, discover, and preserve God’s creation?
Through the “Catawba Science Inquiries (CSI)” Track, we will get hands on experience with science faculty in our lab facilities, and practice our skills of asking questions, following clues, and discerning next steps.
