Student Science Travel Award Application

James M. Beard Student Science Travel Award Application

Thank you for taking the time to complete the application process for the James M. Beard Student Science Travel Award.

Students eligible for the Student Science Travel Award must be full-time, declared majors in Biology, Chemistry or Environmental Sciences, conducting mentored research projects. Students receiving this travel scholarship will use this money towards travel to a scientific conference in which their work will be presented.

The maximum amount a student can receive each academic year is $500. You may apply for fall or spring conference travel. It is also possible for a student to apply for multiple conferences at the same time in one award year period if the amounting sum is $500 or less.

To be considered, students must provide evidence that they have submitted an application to the SGA student scholarship for the academic year. Evidence may be in the form of a confirmation e-mail from SGA forwarded to Dr. Carmony Hartwig.

Please contact Dr. Carmony Hartwig if you have any further questions.

Required Forms

If your scholarship application is approved, you will be required to submit the following forms to Dr. Carmony Hartwig:

Your Faculty Sponsor

It is necessary for you to have a faculty sponsor to complete your application and verify your attendance. This does not mean the faculty member must attend, but they will need to see proof of participation. You are responsible for making sure the faculty sponsor has filled out the Attendance Verification Form, whereas you are responsible for the student portion below.

Multiple Conferences

If you are attending multiple conferences and looking for compensation, please fill out separate applications. You may use the same answers given for essay questions one and two on each application. You will not be required to find multiple faculty sponsors, but you may feel it necessary. There is no limit to the number of separate applications that can be submitted, but all applications must be completed prior to the announced deadline to be considered.

Application

The deadline to apply for conference travel is February 1st.
