The Lilly Center Community Service At the Lilly Center for Vocation and Values, we believe that active community service is one of the best ways to bring students to reflect on the broader concept of vocation as a "calling," as a means to make a difference in their world.
Accordingly, the Center makes available a number of opportunities for students to engage in service activities and to reflect on the idea of service to their fellow human beings.
In addition to the summer internships described under Curricular Programs, the Center operates the following programs:
Volunteer Catawba
A program that works with local community service agencies to provide opportunities for students to engage in service activities in the community in which their campus life is situated. Leaders of these activities also encourage students to reflect on their experiences and to draw conclusions for their lives. Read more »
"You Can Make a Difference" retreats for freshmen
Offered in the summer prior to a student's matriculation at Catawba. These retreats are an orientation to service. Retreat leaders encourage students to think about what they might learn about themselves and what possibilities they might realize through service to others.
Service Within Existing Clubs
The Lilly Center works with existing student organizations such as Campus Crusade and Fellowship of Christian Athletes to promote the development of group service projects.
