STUDENT BLOG: Interning at the Canadian Embassy - Week Three

by Cyle Petersen '10. After the first two weeks here in Washington, I didn't think it was possible to get any busier ... boy was I wrong. Week three left me with only minutes each day to sit and relax. This week I had a two hour lecture, two Congressional hearings to cover, a two hour morning seminar, a small group meeting at a local law firm, an all-day law school forum, a mid-term and a 30 minute group presentation to stuff into my schedule on top of my full-time internship and class schedule.

Catawba Chiefs Club Membership for 2009-2010

Renewal information and football season ticket renewal information has been mailed out to all those who were members in 2008-2009. The deadline to retain last season's football seats is Friday, July 31st. Interest is at an "all time high" as indications are that Catawba football looks to be strong this fall. He stated also "there are plenty of good seats available as of now", but anyone interested in season tickets for this fall should act quickly.

STUDENT BLOG: Interning at the Canadian Embassy - Another Busy Week in Washington!

by Cyle Petersen '10. After a much needed weekend off, Monday morning had come around again. It's always nice to have a few days off but I actually look forward to going to my internship every morning. The people are all so nice and laid back so it makes it fun to work there. I didn't have any work leftover from the previous week and my bosses were all pretty busy taking care of their overloaded e-mail accounts so I didn't do a whole lot of important Canadian Embassy stuff...

STUDENT BLOG: Interning at the Canadian Embassy - Hello from Washington DC

by Cyle Petersen '10 - I've now been in the nation's capital for exactly one week. It seems like I have experienced a year's worth of sightseeing, local culture, and the like already with very minimal rest time to even reflect on it. So here goes...

A Life Remembered, a Life Celebrated: Ronald Vaden Ball

When Ron Ball '61 died very suddenly last June while on a fishing trip in Alaska, his family and friends were stunned. The grief and emptiness felt is slowly giving way to wonderful memories and a celebration of Ron's life. Those who knew him best remembered him for his ties to Catawba College and made gifts to the college in his memory. There were so many memorials, in fact, that an endowed scholarship was established at Catawba in Ron's memory.

Catawba Recycles Geothermal Runoff to Cut Water Use

By Mark Wineka, salisburypost.com. Chalk this one up as a good news, bad news story. Good news for Catawba College, which is saving roughly $20,000 a year in water costs. Bad news for the city of Salisbury, which has lost that same amount in water sales to Catawba. Two years ago, thanks to a monetary contribution from trustee Jim Hurley, the college sank a 20,000-gallon storage tank into the ground...

UNC Quarterback Transferring to Catawba for 2009 Season

by Evan Markfield (Eric Bryant Ross, Editor), Carolina Blue. When North Carolina quarterback T.J. Yates went down with an injury last season, many wondered what would become of the Tar Heels' promising season. Once-forgotten backup Cam Sexton, who had dipped to the third-string spot on the depth, emerged and salvaged Carolina's season, which ended with an 8-4 regular-season record and an appearance in the Continental Tire Bowl.
