Radio Host Mark Packer To Be on Hand for Catawba's Home Football Opener Sept. 4
Popular sports radio host, Mark Packer, also known as "the Packman," will be on hand for Catawba's home football opener against St. Augustine on Saturday, Sept. 4. This game is also the first in a series of themed game days, with Police Officers, Firefighters and Emergency Responders to be admitted free along with three of their guests to the 7 p.m. match-up against St. Augustine.
It's All Cool: Final Hot Spots at Catawba Get Air-Conditioning
The last non-air-conditioned spaces on Catawba College's campus will finally be cool thanks to a new Facilities project that is nearing completion. The Goodman Gymnasium, the Meyer Auxiliary Gymnasium and the racquetball courts, all part of the Abernethy Physical Education Center, were the targets of the cooling project.
Catawba Hopes to Fill Stadium at Home Football Games through Themed Game Day Promotion
The Catawba College Chiefs Club hopes to fill Shuford Stadium during home football games this fall by promoting themed game days. On different Saturdays, a different organization or segment of the local population will be targeted and offered free admission to the games. Catawba Chiefs Club Cranks Up 2010-2011 Membership Drive
Catawba College's Chiefs Club began its 2010-2011 membership drive on June 1 with a goal of 525 members, and membership renewal information has been mailed to all 2009-2010 members. A Chiefs Club membership supports the 83 full athletic scholarships Catawba sponsors for approximately 450 student athletes playing one of its 18 NCAA Division II sports.
Catawba College to Add Women's Lacrosse
Catawba College announced today that women's lacrosse is being added to its athletics program. The announcement was made by Dr. W. Craig Turner, president, and Dennis Davidson, director of athletics. With the addition of lacrosse, which will begin play in the 2011-12 school year, Catawba will field nine varsity women's sports.
Catawba Announces 2009-2010 Athletic Award Winners
Catawba College has announced its 2009-10 athletic award winners for its student-athletes. The awards were presented at the annual athletic ceremony held at the Keppel Auditorium on Tuesday, May 4. Heading the list of award winners were Kelsey Babos and Craige Lyerly, who were awarded the Lomax and Kirkland Awards for the top female and male senior athletes, and Brooke Whitley and Donzell Williams, who were given the Wurster Awards for team leadership.
Players Gather for Mini-Golf Tourney for the Blind

Don Srail, a Rowan County resident who lives just outside of Salisbury, said it best when he described the purpose of Saturday's annual Statewide Putt Putt Tournament for the Blind and Visually Impaired: "We encourage each other a lot more than what doctors can do or pills can do."
Catawba College Sports Hall of Fame Announces Four New Members
Four new members will be inducted into the Catawba College Sports Hall of Fame on May 1, during the festivities of the Hall of Fame's 32st anniversary. The inductees are (with graduation year): David Bennett of Conway, S.C.; Reid Bradshaw '67 of Salisbury; Kevin Sloan '88 of Havertown, Pa.; and Jowita Sokolowska '97 of Harelbeke, Belgium.
Lacrosse Reunion Set for April 24, 2010
Looking for a chance to see former Lacrosse teammates and enjoy some time with them? The perfect opportunity to do just that is the April 24th, 2010 Catawba College Lacrosse Reunion. It all begins at 12:30pm in Kirkland Lobby of Goodman Gymnasium. Lunch for all will be served at that time and several of you will be selected to speak to the group about your time at Catawba and your Lacrosse memories.
