Catawba Chiefs Club Membership for 2009-2010
Renewal information and football season ticket renewal information has been mailed out to all those who were members in 2008-2009. The deadline to retain last season's football seats is Friday, July 31st. Interest is at an "all time high" as indications are that Catawba football looks to be strong this fall. He stated also "there are plenty of good seats available as of now", but anyone interested in season tickets for this fall should act quickly.
A Life Remembered, a Life Celebrated: Ronald Vaden Ball
When Ron Ball '61 died very suddenly last June while on a fishing trip in Alaska, his family and friends were stunned. The grief and emptiness felt is slowly giving way to wonderful memories and a celebration of Ron's life. Those who knew him best remembered him for his ties to Catawba College and made gifts to the college in his memory. There were so many memorials, in fact, that an endowed scholarship was established at Catawba in Ron's memory.
Catawba Alumnus and Three Graduating Seniors Recognized during College's Commencement Exercises
Catawba College Alumnus Patrick L. McCrory '78, the current mayor of the City of Charlotte, and three graduating seniors, Jill Archambault of Glens Falls, N.Y.; Jared Kenish of Glassboro, N.J.; and Richard Kolbasowski, Jr., of Rockwell, N.C.; received special recognition during the College's May 9th Commencement Exercises.
Three 2009 Catawba College Graduates Recognized with Awards
Three Catawba College graduates were recognized during Commencement Exercises on campus for academic excellence. Two were honored as the Whitener Award recipients during the 10 a.m. ceremony, while one student was honored as the Barbara Andrews Award recipient during the 2 p.m.
Pat McCrory Honored with O.B. Michael Award
Patrick L. McCrory, who is currently serving his seventh term as Mayor of the City of Charlotte, was honored by the College during the 10 a.m. commencement exercise with the 2009 O.B. Michael Award. This award has been presented annually since 1938, by the Catawba College Board of Directors of the Alumni Association, to a graduate of the College who has made an outstanding contribution...
Church/College Award Presented and New Fund for Volunteer Service Announced
A long-serving member of the Catawba College Board of Trustees, who is both an alumnus and a retired United Church of Christ minister, was honored Thursday, April 16th with the institution's Campus Ministry Church/College Award.
Catawba College Sports Hall of Fame Announces Six New Members
Six new members will be inducted into the Catawba College Sports Hall of Fame on May 2, during the festivities of the Hall of Fame's 31st anniversary. The inductees are (with graduation year): Henry C. Bernhardt '50; Randy Brown '89; Todd Lipe '91; Marvin Moore '99; Tom Sexton '79; and Selena Wilkes Tory '96.
VIDEO: Catawba Stories CONTEST WINNER Announced
FAMILY, FRIENDS, FUN! Congratulations to Alumna Teresa Brady Thomas '83, whose Catawba Story entitled "Famly, Friends, Fun!" was the winning entry for the Catawba Stories contest. In the story, which fell under the "Family Ties" category, Thomas reflects on the bond she shares with her daughter that will never be broken, the Catawba Experience.
Young Catawba College Couple Makes Gift to Create New Scholarship Fund
Colan '03 and Courtney Blum Potemra '06 of Raleigh both just graduated from Catawba College within the past six years, however, they have already begun to give back to their alma mater in earnest. The couple recently made a gift to create a new endowed scholarship fund at the college and is encouraging their fellow alumni to consider doing the same.
Catawba Students Get Professional Food for Thought at Recent Career Exploration Day
There was a network television actress, a State Bureau of Investigation chemist, a university golf coach, a foreign language teacher and even a dancer from a cruise ship among alumni visiting Catawba College's campus on April 2nd. The occasion was Career Exploration Day, a new event hosted by the Offices of Alumni Relations and Career Services.
