    Fourteen Catawba College Students Inducted into Alpha Sigma Lambda

    Fourteen students in Catawba College's School of Evening and Graduate Studies (SEGS) program were inducted into the College's chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society during a ceremony held April 18 in Tom Smith Auditorium on campus.

    Catawba's Education Honor Society Installs Officers, Inducts New Members

    Catawba College's Theta Phi Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi (KDP) education honor society installed new officers for the 2012-2013 year and inducted 25 new members in a ceremony held at 7:00 p.m. on April 3 in the Tom Smith Auditorium on campus. Faculty members from the Teacher Education Department played active roles in the ceremony.

    Catawba College Special Education Awareness Fair

    On Thursday, April 26, 2012, from 5:30-7:00 p.m., there will be a Special Education Awareness Fair held in Catawba College's Cannon Student Center. The fair will be sponsored by Catawba's Student North Carolina Association of Educators (SNCAE).

    Benefit Concert Garners School Supplies for Rowan-Salisbury Students

    The SNCAE Benefit Concert hosted on the Catawba College campus in Goodman Gymnasium on Saturday, March 24 was a successful event. According to Catawba's SNCAE advisor and director of Catawba's Curriculum Materials Center, Amanda Bosch, "The performers were excellent, booths were fun and best of all, we had a total of 387 school supplies donated."

    Catawba College Offering Special Education Major

    The N.C. State Board of Education has granted final approval of Catawba College's Special Education Licensure Program. While special education teachers work with children and youth who have a variety of disabilities, Catawba's licensure program will prepare teachers to work with students with mild to moderate learning challenges.

    Catawba Alumnus Writes Music and Lyrics for Original Musical

    EDITOR'S NOTE: Dan Ryan, a 2009 graduate of Catawba College, majored in Music and minored in K-12 Education. He has been the choral director at North Iredell High School since 2009 and wrote the music and lyrics for the upcoming original musical "The Millennium Problem," which is set for March 8th, 9th, and 10th.

    March 24th Concert to Benefit Rowan-Salisbury Students

    K-12 students in the Rowan-Salisbury Schools will be the beneficiaries of a Saturday, March 24th benefit concert hosted on the campus of Catawba College by Catawba's Student North Carolina Association of Educators (SNCAE). Admission to the 11 a.m. concert, featuring a special performance from Christian Rock band, Grace Reigns Down of Greensboro, will be open to those who make a donation of one school supply to attend.

    The Martha Kirkland West Scholars are students from both inside and outside of the state of North Carolina who have demonstrated leadership, community involvement and a strong commitment to teaching. The Scholars are so designated in honor of Catawba College alumna, College trustee and former Teacher Education faculty member, Dr. Martha Kirkland West of Salisbury, N.C.     Catawba Conservation Camp to Continue in 2012 Thanks to Ribbon of Hope Grant

    The Catawba Conservation Camp, a summer camp that teaches middle school girls about the importance of conserving and protecting the natural environment, will continue operating this summer, thanks to a $25,000 Ribbon of Hope grant. In late 2011, the NC GlaxoSmithKline Foundation's Board of Directors awarded the Ribbon of Hope grant to Catawba College to continue its Catawba Conservation Camp or C3 that began in 2009 with funding provided by a three-year grant from the Burroughs Wellcome Fund.

    Catawba Alumna Approved for Principal Position

    Two new and temporary administrative positions were filled Tuesday evening by the Davidson County Board of Education. At the monthly meeting, the board unanimously approved Lydia E. Mack, as the assistant principal of both Midway and Friedberg elementary schools, and retiree Max T. Cole as the temporary assistant principal of Central Davidson Middle School.
