Premier of Student Sci-Fi Film, "Vector" Dec. 5
Catawba Honors students in Dr. Connie Lowery’s "Real vs. Reel Biology" class this fall have written, produced, and starred in an original short Sci-Fi movie. The premier of this film, "Vector," will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5th in Tom Smith Auditorium on campus.
Students Learn That Manners Matter
Catawba students were treated to a formal dinner Wednesday, complete with fine china, fancy dishes and all the facts they need to know about proper manners for such an occasion. The Career Services Office, along with the Ketner School of Business, hosted the Manners Matter Dinner. Catawba faculty served as the wait staff. Catawba Professor Delivers Paper at Conference
Dr. Aaron Butler, Assistant Professor of English at Catawba College, delivered a paper at the 23rd Annual Conference of the Mid-Atlantic Popular & American Culture Association, held November 1-3, 2012 in Pittsburgh, Pa. The title of Butler's paper was " 'The [a]isle is full of noises': Using Contemporary Music to Enhance Performances at the Blackfriars Playhouse."
Chamberlain Honored with Wingate's Distinguished Alumni Award
Dr. Julie Rhyne Chamberlain, an Associate Professor of Music and the Director of the Sacred Music Concentration at Catawba College, recently received Wingate University's Distinguished Alumni Award, that University's highest alumni honor.
Catawba SGA Scholarships Help 13 Students Travel to Academic Conferences during Fall Semester
Catawba College students attended or will attend the Stanford Biochemistry Departmental Symposium in Santa Cruz, Calif., the 2012 National Leadership Conference in Charlotte, the Southeastern Psychological Association Conference in Atlanta, Ga., and the Southeastern Theatre Conference in Louisville, Ky., all thanks to new SGA-funded scholarships.

STUDENT BLOG: So Much To Be Thankful For! (A Day in the Life of Theatre Majors)
by Leanna Hicks '16 - I have never been more tired than I was the week before Thanksgiving break! I was praying, pleading for the break to get here as fast as it possibly could. Along with being EXTREMELY busy working my fingers to the bone to make sure people got their tickets to the amazing show of Legally Blonde by our even more amazing theatre department, I also had the opportunity to have a prospective student stay in my dorm and give her a little taste of Catawba.
Annual Christmas Tree Lighting, Fun and Photos with Santa
The Catawba College community celebrated its annual Christmas Tree Lighting Service together on Monday, November 19 in the Cannon Student Center. The event was co-sponsored by the Student Government Association (SGA) and the President's Office.
Students Hope Shoeboxes Bring Smiles
On November 13th, over 100 volunteers participated in the second annual Operation Christmas Child Packing Party – a joint effort of Volunteer Catawba and the Student Affairs Office. The smell of fresh popped popcorn and hot chocolate - as well as the sound of familiar Christmas tunes - filled the air, as energetic “elves” packed a total of 360 gift boxes for Operation Christmas Child. These gifts will be distributed to children in impoverished and war torn countries by Samaritan’s Purse...
Hester Resigns as Football Coach, Accepts New Challenge at Catawba
Catawba College announced today that Chip Hester has resigned his position as head football coach. Hester has accepted the position of Director of Athletic Development at Catawba, a position that will be vacated in December with the retirement of Gordon Kirkland, Jr. '70, who joined the college in 2000. Hester's new position is part of Catawba's Development Office and includes oversight of the Chiefs Club, the athletics' booster club.
Catawba College Professor Discusses International Business With Nicaraguan Students
Catawba College Professor Richard Browne recently shared insights in his presentation "Strategy vs. Execution – which matters more in achieving global business success?" while lecturing to the Master's of Business class at the Universidad Americana, Managua, Nicaragua. Browne, who lectures in International Business at Catawba's Ketner School of Business, utilized case studies from several Fortune 500 companies to highlight the factors for winning at business in the global arena.

Students "See What Success Looks Like" at Ketner School of Business Hall of Fame
One of the individuals inducted into Catawba College's Ketner School of Business Hall of Fame on November 13 was the man who started it in 2007. Philip J. Kirk ’67 of Raleigh, a member of the Business Hall of Fame’s Class of 2012, was credited with establishing the Hall of Fame when he was employed at Catawba as the Vice President of External Relations.

Catawba College's 189-acre environmental preserve was named for environmental champion Fred Stanback on November 8 in a special surprise ceremony honoring the longtime benefactor and advocate of the Center for the Environment.
Catawba English Department Sponsors Evening of Poetry, Fiction, & Song on Nov. 15
Poet and fiction writer Debra Daniel and singer/songwriter Jack McGregor will perform their work at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, November 15, in Tom Smith Auditorium on campus. The performance of poetry, flash fiction, and songs is sponsored by the English Department and is free and open to the public. A Q&A session focusing on the differences in poetry and song lyrics will follow the performance.
Catawba College Writer-in Residence Will Have Collection of Poetry Published
Dr. Janice Fuller, Writer-in-Residence and Professor of English at Catawba College, has had her fourth collection of poetry entitled On the Bevel accepted for publication in 2014 by Cinnamon Press in Wales. An independent press, Cinnamon has published books from Wales, Scotland, England Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, the US, and China. Their books have won the Wales Book of the Year awarded by Literature Wales and the Sundial Scottish Arts Best First Book of the Year.
North Carolina's New Governor is '78 Catawba Alumnus, Pat McCrory
North Carolina's new governor is 1978 Catawba College alumnus, Pat McCrory. McCrory, a seven-term mayor of Charlotte, successfully ran as N.C.'s Republican gubernatorial candidate, defeating Democratic nominee and N.C. Lt. Governor, Walter Dalton, in the Nov. 6 election.
Catawba's November Community Forum Focuses on A Child's First Five Formative Years
Learn why birth to five years of age are a child's most formative years at Catawba College's November Community Forum. Deborah K. But for Freeze, a Statesville native and professor of North Carolina history at Catawba College in Salisbury, his views on the show don't stop there.
Catawba Trustees Approve Three Percent Increase in Tuition, Room & Board for '13-'14
Catawba College students will see a modest three percent increase in tuition, room and board costs for the 2013-2014 academic year. College trustees made that decision at their October board meeting rather than in the spring, in order to give both current and prospective students and their families plenty of time to plan for next year.
Catawba's Annual Service of Lessons and Carols Marks 25th Anniversary
Catawba College's annual Service of Lessons and Carols marks its 25th anniversary this year and those attending will hear the story of the birth of Christ in both scripture and song. Members of the general public are invited to attend the Service in Omwake-Dearborn Chapel on Thursday, November 29. The Service of Lessons and Carols will be offered to special guests of the college on two additional nights – Monday, Nov. 26 and Tuesday, Nov. 27, but these performances are not open to the general..

Catawba Gospel Choir to Perform Nov. 4 under Direction of Dennis Reed '06
Catawba College's Gospel Choir, under the direction of Young-Artist-In-Residence and Inspire the Fire founder, Dennis Reed '06, will offer a free fall concert at 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4.
