Results of Catawba Pride Marching Band Classic
Piedmont High School was the winner of the Catawba Pride Marching Band Classic cup at the inaugural event held at Catawba College on Saturday, Oct. 8 in Shuford Stadium. The event drew high school marching bands from surrounding counties and included an exhibition from the Catawba Pride Marching Band, under the direction of Mr. Jay Meachum.
Catawba Students and Their Professor Travel to American Shakespeare Center
Three of Catawba’s students in the School of Evening and Graduate Studies – Crystal Hodges, Katrice Pruitt, and Colleen Smiley – traveled along with the professor of their Shakespeare class, Dr. Aaron Butler, to the American Shakespeare Center in Staunton, Virginia on October 8-9. The American Shakespeare Center is home to the Blackfriars Playhouse, a re-creation of an indoor theatre used in Shakespeare’s day.
Phi Beta Lambda Members Tour Uptown Charlotte
Members of Catawba College’s Phi Beta Lambda (PBL), a national business fraternity, toured the "financial district" in Uptown Charlotte led by local media personality and 1977 Catawba alumnus Joey Popp on October 19.
National Honor Society at Catawba College Inducts New Members
Catawba College's Omicron Chapter of Alpha Chi, the national college honor society, held an initiation ceremony for candidates on October 21 in Omwake-Dearborn Chapel on campus. The ceremony was held in conjunction with the college's annual Homecoming and Family Weekend.
Students and a Faculty Member Welcomed to Catawba's Teacher Education Program
Forty eight Catawba College students and one faculty member were honored in a formal pinning ceremony held in Omwake-Dearborn Chapel on Wednesday, October 12, 2011. This event marked admission to the Teacher Education Program at Catawba College. The ceremony was sponsored by the Student North Carolina Association of Educators (SNCAE).
Catawba College Music Department Presents Twenty-Fourth Annual Service of Lessons and Carols
The Catawba College Department of Music will present its annual Service of Lessons and Carols in Omwake-Dearborn Chapel for the twenty-fourth consecutive year. Members of the general public are invited to attend on Thursday, December 1, while a Tuesday, November 29 performance is open only to invited guests of the College.
"Side by Side by Sondheim" Offered Nov. 8-12 by Catawba College Theatre Arts
The sophistication, wit, insight, heart and genius of Broadway's most innovative and influential artist is at the center of an upcoming Catawba College Theatre Arts' tribute to composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim. "Side by Side by Sondheim" runs November 8-9 at 6:55 p.m. and Nov. 10-12 at 7:30 p.m. in Hedrick Theatre on campus.

Three Catawba College Alumni Honored with Distinguished Alumnus Awards
Three individuals were honored as recipients of Catawba College's Distinguished Alumnus Award on Saturday, Oct. 22 at a barbecue luncheon held in Goodman Gymnasium as part of the college's Homecoming Weekend activities. The honorees included 1976 alumnus William V. 'Bill" Godley of Woodleaf, and twin brothers, 1986 alumni Benjamin "Benjy" Hamm of Louisville, Kentucky, and Bradley J. Hamm of Bloomington, Indiana.
Fibrant the Focus as City Council Candidates Gather at Catawba College Forum

Fowler Family Moves Endowed Scholarship at Catawba to First Family Level
Newton and Nancy Fowler of Concord and members of their family have made a gift to Catawba College that moves their Fowler Endowed Scholarship Fund, established in 2005, to the First Family Scholarship level. Preference for the Fowler Family First Family Scholarship will be given to a student athlete who maintains a 3.0 grade point while majoring in Education.

Community Forum: On Shakespeare and Being Human
When Dr. Bethany Sinnott retired from the faculty of Catawba College this past spring, the entire college rose for tribute after tribute to her gentle spirit and unflagging dedication to the college community. Dr. Sinnott left a remarkable legacy: hundreds of former students who, under her tutelage, learned to love English language and literature in general, and the works of William Shakespeare in particular.
Catawba College Nets Nominations, Awards from Metrolina Theatre Association
Past and present members of the Catawba College Theatre Arts Department — students, alumni and faculty — were winners in the 2010-2011 season of Metrolina Theatre Awards. The awards were presented at the Metrolina Theatre Association's 8th annual Gala on Sunday, October 9 at the Omni Charlotte Hotel at 132 East Trade Street in downtown Charlotte. Members of Catawba's Theatre Arts Department received 29 nominations and eight awards.
Members of College Community Agree to Exchange Service for a T-Shirt
Volunteer Catawba is hopeful that a free t-shirt might serve as both an enticement and as a reminder for members of the campus community to make a commitment to serve others during this academic year. To date, more than 400 of the t-shirts, imprinted with "Catawba Cares: One campus. One community. One world." have been distributed to faculty, staff and students on campus. "My Summer of Service:" Sixteen Lilly Center Summer Interns Placed with Nonprofits
During the summer of 2011, the Lilly Center for Vocation and Values at Catawba College provided funding and facilitated the placement of 16 students as interns in the nonprofit sector. On September 15, the interns came together in Tom Smith Auditorium on campus to share highlights from their summer experiences. The evening's program was entitled "My Summer of Service."
Salisbury City Council Candidates' Forum Slated Oct. 20 at Catawba
Catawba College, in conjunction with The Salisbury Post and the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce, will be hosting a Candidate Forum for the candidates vying in the Salisbury City Council election from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20 in Tom Smith Auditorium.
