The Center for the Environment has received a great deal of interest in its Catawba College Energy Corps, a program that will facilitate the placement of as many as 17 students or recent graduates in on-the-job green energy positions.

Candidates must be currently enrolled in college, pursing an associate, bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree, or they must have completed such a program within the past three years. Students from any accredited college or university may apply.

The individuals, who will be selected from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds, will work with businesses and organizations that are at the forefront of the state's renewable energy efforts.

The Center continues to accept applications for the program. Cover letters, resumes and professional references should be sent to Dan Robertson at droberts@catawba.edu. If applicants have questions, they can also reach him at (704) 645-4867.

Officials will review the applications and forward them to the 13 partnering businesses and organizations, which will select the interns and fellows. Applications will be accepted until all the positions are filled.

The green energy-related businesses and organizations involved in the project include: Calor Energy Consulting in Charlotte, Argand Energy in Charlotte, Optima Engineering in Charlotte, Southern Energy Management in Morrisville, TectaAmerica Carolinas in Indian Trail, Sundance Power Systems in Weaverville, Beaver Brothers in Salisbury, Catawba College in Salisbury, gDwell, Inc., in Charlotte, O2Energies in Cornelius, Rowan-Cabarrus Community College in Salisbury, Centralina Council of Governments in Charlotte and Davidson County Community College in Mocksville.
