 Buzz is building that Charlotte is becoming a favorite to host the Democratic National Convention in 2012.
Formal bids to the DNC do not go out until next Friday, May 21st. However, national reports say Charlotte is among four cities vying for the convention.
Charlotte might be more attractive to the party because President Obama carried the state two years ago.
Political Science Professor Michael Bitzer says North Carolina would be a good place to hold the convention because it's centrist and southern.
"You're winning in the South, you need to build on that momentum," said Bitzer, talking about the Democratic Party.
If Charlotte lands the convention, local leaders say it would be the biggest event the city has hosted in terms of economic impact. The impact could go as high $200 million.
In comparison, a race weekend might have a $100 million dollar impact. The CIAA basketball tournament brings in $35 million.
A DNC decision is likely months away.
