Catawba Chiefs Club Holds a Triad Area Reception
The Catawba College Chiefs Club hosted a reception for Catawba Chiefs members, fans and parents from Alamance, Davidson, Forsyth,Guilford and Randolph counties July 30th in Greensboro. Those in attendance were greeted by 2009-2010 Chiefs Club President Alison Klopp and then treated to the outlook for the 2009 football season from Coach Chip Hester followed by questions of him from those in attendance.
Salisbury Couple Establishes New Scholarship at Catawba
George and Blanche Greene '70 Glover of Salisbury have made a gift to establish at new scholarship at Catawba College which will benefit students from Rowan County who demonstrate financial need. The George and Blanche Glover Family Endowed Scholarship honors Blanche Greene Glover and the time she was a student at Catawba.

Quite the opposite and I'm pretty sure no one in my department even knows that next Thursday is my last day because they have given me enough work to last for another whole month!
Gum, Candy and Magazines Provide a Taste of Home to Soldiers in Afghanistan
A U.S. Army battalion in Afghanistan will soon have a few comforts from home, thanks to the generosity of the Catawba College community. The community is participating in a service project, spearheaded by the Office of Student Affairs, with the first shipment of collected items slated to be mailed Friday, July 24.
Blue Masque Hall of Fame to Induct New Class of Honorees
Homecoming weekend will again include Blue Masque Hall of Fame festivities. After last year' s rousing start, four new outstanding individuals from Catawba' s rich theatre tradition will be added to the Hall of Fame. This year' s induction ceremony will be held in Hedrick Theatre on the night of Friday, October 2nd at approximately 9:30 p.m., immediately after the production of The Women. A reception will follow on Keppel Auditorium stage.

As my boss promised me, July would be very busy as Congress attempts to push through as much legislation as possible before the August recess. '48 Graduate Creates Scholarship in Memory of His Wife and Brother
When Harold Bowen '48 of Lexington looks back on his life of 88 years, he has accomplished much and he credits Catawba College for setting him on his successful life's path. Now, Bowen is doing something to pay Catawba back; he has established a scholarship at the College in memory of his wife, Jean Reid Bowen '49, and twin brother, Carroll W. Bowen '46.

Catawba Graduate Student Named 2009 N.C. American History Teacher of the Year
Rowan-Salisbury School System's Theresa Pierce has been selected as the 2009 North Carolina Gilder Lehrman Preserve American History Teacher of the Year winner. As a state finalist, Pierce will now become eligible to compete this fall for the national title, which will be awarded by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.
Long-Serving Catawba College Trustee Dies
Claude Shuford Abernethy, Jr. of Hickory, a longtime member of the Catawba College Board of Trustees and a generous benefactor of the College, died July 8 after an extended illness. A memorial service for him will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 18th at his home church, Corinth Reformed Church in Hickory, and the family will receive friends after the service.
Catawba College Takes Steps to Become a More Unified Digital Campus
It will take almost two years and cost close to four million dollars, but when all is said and done, Catawba will have a more unified digital campus. The college is converting its current and disparate campus enterprise computing systems to the SunGard Higher Education Banner system with a projected go-live date for the new system of February 2011.
Catawba College Students Continue to Be Finalists in National BMI Foundation's John Lennon Songwriting Contest
Not one, not two, but three Catawba College students have been selected as finalists in the 12th annual John Lennon Songwriting Contest. This brings to five the number of Catawba students who have placed either first, second or third in the Lennon competition in the past four years, an unparalleled feat in a contest that draws thousands of entries each year from student songwriters across the country.

With two different national holiday celebrations in the same week, the celebrations were to be expected. Catawba College Office Celebrates Two Years of Waste Reduction and Recycling Efforts
Two years ago, Catawba College's Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling did not exist. But since it was established within the Facilities Department in 2007, this office has championed recycling and waste reduction efforts on campus with a track record of success, measured in tons.
Catawba College Instructor Receives Certification, Attends Conference
Ken Clifton, a visiting instructor of information systems in Catawba College's Ketner School of Business, has recently earned his Linux+ Certification. Clifton also attended the North Carolina Local Government Information Systems Association Conference held May 27-29 in Wilmington, N.C.
Catawba College Professor Wins Prize in Fiction Contest
Local novelist Dr. Kurt Corriher, who serves as professor of German, Acting, Dramatic Literature, and Film Criticism at the institution, won third prize in the Writers' Workshop of Asheville's annual Meet the Writers fiction contest.
