Alumna Emily McGaughy '05 of Berkeley, Calif., who majored in religion and philosophy at Catawba, has earned her Master of Divinity degree from the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley. At May commencement exercises for the Pacific School of Religion, Emily was one of three students presented with special awards. She was the co-recipient of the Koinonia Award, given annually to a student(s) who enhances the school's sense of community, actively participates in campus life, and demonstrates academic excellence. She was described as "an active, present, and passionate member of the Pacific School of Religion community," one who helped organize numerous campus movements. She served the school as a student trustee on the PSR Board of Trustees and as a member of the CAPRS Council. Her coordination of the orientation week chapel service and other chapel events were noted, as were her "rigorous coursework and insightful contributions to discussion" in the classroom.
