    Catawba College Psychology Professor Attends Meeting in Italy

    Dr. Albert E. (Robin) Roberts recently attended the 13th meeting of the European Society of Neurosonology and Cerebral Hemodynamics held in Genoa, Italy. This meeting attracted participants from 44 countries and focused on the new developments in using clinical ultrasound as a neuroimaging tool to assess progressive cerebrovascular impairments which can lead to a set of problems such as stroke, dementia, and general cognitive dysfunctions.

    Rowan-Salisbury High School Graduations to Be Held at Catawba College

    Again this year, Catawba College's 1,450-seat Keppel Auditorium will be the site for the Rowan-Salisbury School System's high school graduations on Thursday, June 12 and Friday, June 13. Doors open for the graduation ceremonies one hour prior and tickets are required for admittance.

    Catawba College's Retiring President Honored with Establishment of New Fund

    The Catawba College Board of Trustees has established the Robert E. Knott Endowed Faculty Development Fund to honor Dr. Robert E. Knott, who is retiring May 31 after six years as Catawba's 20th president. Information about the new fund, which will support faculty and curriculum development at the College, was presented to Dr. Knott at the Board's annual Trustees Retreat in Blowing Rock on May 16.

    Catawba College Students, Faculty, Staff and Alumni to Make Business Study Tour of China

    Students, faculty, staff and alumni associated with Catawba College's Ketner School of Business will take a "Business in China" tour May 19-June 1. The tour, coordinated by Associate Professor of Marketing, Dr. Jack Green, is offered through EF Education Tours and includes visits to Beijing, Xian, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

    Catawba College Hosts State Curriculum Materials Meeting

    Amanda G. Bosch, director of curriculum Materials Center in Catawba College's Department of Teacher Education, hosted the N.C. Curriculum Materials Center directors on Catawba's campus April 25. Bosch serves as president of this state organization made up of curriculum materials center directors from various teacher education departments in North Carolina.

    Catawba's Chemistry in Art Is a Sell-Out

    Catawba College Chemistry Professor, Dr. Carol Miderski, knew she had a sell-out class when 24 upper class students from a variety of disciplines signed up for her Chemistry in Art class this spring semester. Miderski's students learned just how successful their learning had been over the course of the semester when they exhibited the products they made in class before a wowed audience at a Project Expo in Catawba's Lilly Center on April 24.

    Center for Environment on UNC-TV's 'North Carolina Now' Wednesday, May 14

    UNC-TV's statewide news magazine "North Carolina Now" will spotlight the Center for the Environment at Catawba College Wednesday, May 14, at 7:30 p.m. The feature story focuses on the work of the center, mentioning the upcoming interfaith conference, "Faith, Spirituality and Environmental Stewardship." The conference is scheduled for May 29-31.

    Special Recognitions During Catawba College's Commencement Exercises

    Several individuals, including students, an alumnus and retiring faculty members, received special recognition during Catawba College's May 10th Commencement Exercises.

    Three 2008 Catawba College Graduates Recognized with Awards

    Three Catawba College graduates were recognized during Commencement Exercises on campus for academic excellence. Two were honored as the Whitener Award recipients during the 10 a.m. ceremony, while one student was honored as the Barbara Andrews Award recipient during the 2 p.m.

    "Mr. Baseball" Receives O.B. Michael Award During Catawba College Commencement

    Catawba College honored Joseph S. Ferebee '42 of Misenheimer, N.C., with the O.B. Michael Award. This award has been presented annually since 1938, by the Catawba College Board of Directors of the Alumni Association, to a graduate of the College who has made an outstanding contribution to the College and/or the larger society.

    2008 Baccalaureate Service and Marshal's Walk

    Catawba held its Baccalaureate Service in Omwake-Dearborn Chapel on Friday, May 9 with remarks provided by the Reverend Dr. Kenneth Clapp '70, Catawba's senior vice president, chaplain and director of the Lilly Center for Vocation and Values. His message was entitled, "It's Morphing Time."

    Catawba College awarded 286 students their diplomas in two separate commencement exercises held Saturday, May 10th in Keppel Auditorium. A few of the graduates followed in the footsteps of relatives when they attended Catawba and earned their degrees.
