    Theatre Arts Honors Society Sponsors Service Project at Catawba

    Alpha Psi Omega, Catawba College's Theatre Arts Honors Society, is sponsoring a service project, Broadway Cares: An AIDS Benefit, at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 29 in Peeler Crystal Lounge of the Robertson College-Community Center on campus.

    Inaugural Distinguished CEO Lecture Series Kicks Off at Catawba College April 1

    "Sound Solutions to Rising Health Care Costs" will be the topic of Bob Ingram's speech at the inaugural Distinguished CEO Lecture Series to be offered at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1 in the Peeler Crystal Lounge of the Robertson College-Community Center at Catawba College.

    School of Business to Host Second Annual Business Hall of Fame

    Catawba College's Ketner School of Business will host its Second Annual Business Hall of Fame on Saturday, November 8. The event which begins with a 6 p.m. reception, followed by a 6:45 p.m. dinner in Peeler Crystal Lounge of the Robertson College-Community Center on campus.

    Straight Speaking or the Lack of It in Catawba College's Production of "Tartuffe"

    "Tartuffe" is a comedy that has been around almost 400 years, but in a new interpretation used by Catawba College's Theatre Arts Department, it seems amazingly current. Catawba's production of "Tartuffe," by Frenchman Jean-Baptiste Moliere and interpreted by Maya Slater, opens in Hedrick Theatre on campus at 6:55 p.m. Tuesday, April 8.

    Catawba College to Hold Its Second Annual Hunger Banquet

    Student organizations at Catawba College are working together to coordinate the institution's second annual Hunger Banquet. The event, planned by Volunteer Catawba, will draw student participation from on-campus organizations such as the Delphinian Society, a service organization for women. Proceeds from Hunger Banquet tickets sales will benefit an organization which works to end hunger, poverty and injustice.

    First-Year Students Raise Enough Funds to Build Three Houses and Feed a Family of Four for a Year

    It was a check for $1,668, but it was enough, Catawba College First-Year students learned, to build three houses in Rwanda and to feed a family of four there for an entire year. When Edward Cardoza, Vice-President of Development for the Boston-based non-profit Partners in Health, shared that simple mathematical fact on Tuesday, March 18 in Catawba's Keppel Auditorium, more than a few first-years' eyebrows were raised.

    Poetry of Catawba College Professor Launched and Featured

    North Carolina Poet Laureate Kay Byer has selected Dr. Janice Moore Fuller's third poetry collection Séance to feature for the month of March on her segment of the North Carolina Arts Council website. Fuller is Professor of English and Write-in-Residence at Catawba College.

    Catawba ONE Organization Hosts Forum on International Development

    Catawba College's Catawba ONE organization will host a forum on international development at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 27 in the Tom Smith Auditorium in the Ketner School of Business. Topics to be discussed include various aspects of international development such as political, economical, and ethical issues.

    Catawba College celebrates National Athletic Training Month for the month of March 2008. The Athletic Training Department is responsible for the health care needs of all 18 varsity sports.

    Atlanta Couple Gives Back in Form of New Catawba Scholarship

    Catawba College Alumnus Andrew "Drew" Allvine '93 and his wife Blake Burton of Atlanta have established a new scholarship at the institution through a deferred gift of a life insurance policy. The Andrew Earl and Blake Burton Allvine Scholarship was established through Catawba's Tower Society.

    Six new members were present at the Feb. 22nd semi-annual meeting of the Catawba College Business Advisory Board for the Ralph W. Ketner School of Business.

    Catawba College Hosts Mathematics Competition Qualifying Event

    Thursday, March 13th, marked the sixth year that Catawba College served as a qualifying site for the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics state contests.

    Service for Fallen Salisbury Firefighters Held at Catawba

    The Omwake-Dearborn Chapel at Catawba College was the site for a 2 p.m. service on Thursday, March 13 for two fallen Salisbury firefighters, Victor A. Isler and Justin Edward Monroe. The two lost their lives in a March 7 structure fire.

    Catawba College Professor Responds to Question of N.C. Voter Relevance

    from www.news14.com. Catawba College political science professor Michael Bitzer said writing off North Carolina would be dangerous, considering the state’s history of Democratic governors, several undecided super delegates, and an expected strong voter turnout.

    Catawba College Student Receives Grant-in-Aid of Research Award

    Catawba College senior Hayley Stafford of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., who is majoring in Environmental Science, received a Grant-in-Aid of Research award from the national honors society, Sigma-Xi, for her proposal, "Effects of increased levels of carbon dioxide on calcification in cnidarians."

    1978 Catawba College Alumnus and Wife Establish Scholarship

    Catawba College Alumnus Harper Holland '78, wife Michele, and their 10-year-old son, Christopher of Lake Mary, Fla., have established a new scholarship at the college in honor of Holland's parents. Preference for the Clyde and Daphne Holland Endowed Scholarship will be given to students from Sampson County High School and preferably from Lakewood High School.

    Catawba 2008 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies Set

    This year's Hall of Fame Weekend is set for April 25th and 26th, 2008. Golf is Friday, April 25th at the Country Club of Salisbury at 1:00pm and the induction ceremony is Saturday, April 26th at noon in the Kirkland Lobby of Goodman Gymnasium. This year's inductees are Ginger Hamric, Herman Helms '48(d), Charlie Little '64, Joseph Popp '52, Tracey Scruggs '90, and Ralph Wager.

    Robert Casmus Selected as N.C. Athletic Trainer of the Year for Second Time in His Career

    Robert Casmus, head athletic trainer at Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina, has been recognized for the second time in his career as the North Carolina Athletic Trainers' Association College/University Athletic Trainer of the Year. He received the award March 8 during the association's annual meeting in Wilmington.

    Catawba College to Host Mathematical Association of America Dinner

    The Catawba College Mathematics Department will host the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) State Dinner from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2008 in the Center for the Environment on campus.     This year's freshman "common reading" at Catawba College is Mountains Beyond Mountains by journalist Tracy Kidder. Kidder subtitled his book "The quest of Dr. Paul Farmer, a man who would cure the world." In it, Kidder tells the extraordinary story of Farmer's creation of Partners In Health, an organization dedicated to providing modern health care to the impoverished masses of the entire world.
