Catawba College's new campus map includes the new residence halls of Abernethy Village, the addition to the Cannon Student Center (currently under construction), the Palmer Archives building behind the library, the college's named exterior spaces, and recently named interior campus roads.

The map, created by William Pitzer of Davidson, was six months in the making. He collaborated with Catawba's graphics designer and web designer to create the 15-layer map, Catawba's first new campus map in more than a dozen years.

The map is available for downloading and printing from the campus website in 11" x 17" and 8.5" x 11" formats on the campus maps page. Both map versions are available for double-sided printing with directions to the campus printed on the back side of the map. Professionally printed copies of the 11" x 17" version of the map will be available in the Information and Campus Maps kiosk in front of the Hedrick Administration Building and will be offered to visitors and prospective students to campus.

The Offices of Student Affairs and Development worked together to come up with suitable names for the interior roads on campus. This was done at the behest of the City's Emergency Management Office which sought to facilitate 911 responses on campus. These newly named interior roads include Faculty/Staff Circle, Brodbeck Drive, Trustee Circle, Alumni Drive, Rahauser Drive and Hayes Drive.

Outdoor spaces which are indicated on the new map include Brady Courtyard, Abernethy Quadrangle, Oliver's Way, the Elizabeth Stanback Wildlife Garden, the Williams Patio, Stanback Plaza, and the Intramural Activity Area.

Catawba's web designer will use the new campus map to create an interactive map on the College website which will be unveiled later this year.

Pitzer has done extensive graphics work for "The Charlotte Observer" and "National Geographic." He also recently completed Davidson College's campus map. His company is INFORARTZ.com.
