Following Catawba College's Opening Convocation for spring semester on Thursday, January 18, 2008, the staff of the Corriher-Linn-Black Library hosted an Open House, which they billed as "Extreme Makeover, Library Edition."

The Salisbury architectural firm of Ramsey, Burgin and Smith Architects, Inc. oversaw the yearlong library renovations which capitalized on existing tall ceilings, large windows and spacious public spaces. An information commons was created, offering attractive seating and plenty of computers, along with a library instruction lab, a reading area and spaces for collaborative learning in small groups. As a way to maximize the 1953 circa building's limited square footage, the renovation also included high-density or compact shelving to house most of the library's collections.

The staff and collections of the library moved out of the space during the Christmas holidays in 2006 and were temporarily relocated for a year to the second floor of Hoke Hall and four mobile units on campus behind Hoke Hall (to house library collections) during the renovation period.

A formal dedication of spaces in the library is planned for mid-February.
