Student Blog: Random Thoughts of a Catawba Senior
Casey Lane Hudgins is a senior from Stuart, Va. Hudgins, a former member of the Catawba College Swim Team, now assists the current team and has served on the staff of the student newspaper, "The Pioneer." She is majoring in Communication Arts and minoring in Speech, and plans to graduate with her classmates in May of 2008.
GlaxoSmithKline Vice Chairman to Speak at Catawba
Robert A. Ingram, Vice Chairman Pharmaceuticals at GlaxoSmithKline, will be the keynote speaker at the inaugural Distinguished CEO Lecture Series on Tuesday, April 1 at 4 p.m. in the Peeler Crystal Lounge, Robertson College Community Center. The series is being sponsored by the Business Advisory Board for the Ralph W. Ketner School of Business.
Live Vicariously at Catawba College's Production of "Wonder of the World" Feb. 5-9

Live vicariously and join in the fun and the chaos as Catawba College presents Wonder of the World, on stage at 6:55 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, February 5-6, and at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, February 7-9, in Hedrick Little Theatre.
College Financial Aid Help Available on Saturday, February 9th
Catawba College is one of 56 locations across North Carolina where College financial aid officers will be available on Saturday, February 9 from 9 a.m. until noon to help high school seniors and families complete and submit their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) forms.
Catawba College Dean's List Announced
A total of 218 students have been named to the Dean's List for the fall semester at Catawba College, according to Dr. Jesse McCartney, vice president and provost. Students named to the Dean's List have achieved a 3.5 grade point average in 15 or more semester hours.
Donor Hopes New Scholarship Will Change Somebody's Life
Alumnus Richard "Rick" B. Toms '74 of Hagerstown, Md., hopes the new scholarship he and his wife, Cinda, have established at Catawba College will change a student's life. He says the scholarship he received that enabled him to attend Catawba and play football changed his.
Catawba College Reunion
Posted by Schwineka on newsobserver.com. The debate Thursday was also something of a college reunion. Republican gubernatorial candidates Pat McCrory and Bill Graham both went to Catawba College, a small liberal arts college in Salisbury, and serve on its board of trustees.
Catawba College to Host State Math Contests
For the sixth year in a row, Catawba College will host the N.C. Council of Teachers of Mathematics state contests on Thursday, March 13, 2008.Tests in Algebra I and Geometry will be administered by the Catawba College Mathematics Department. These tests are open to any student who is enrolled in Algebra I or Geometry this current school year.
Center for Environment Offers Live Webcast on Global Warming Solutions
The Center for the Environment at Catawba College will offer a live, interactive webcast called "The 2 Percent Solution" on Wednesday, Jan. 30, in Room 300 of the Center for the Environment facility. Light refreshments will be served at 7:30 p.m., and the webcast will begin promptly at 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Renovated Corriher-Linn-Black Library Holds Open House
Following Catawba College's Opening Convocation for spring semester on Thursday, January 18, 2008, the staff of the Corriher-Linn-Black Library hosted an Open House, which they billed as "Extreme Makeover, Library Edition."
Retiring Provost Shares His Vision during Institution's Opening Convocation
Catawba College's Opening Spring Convocation, held on Thursday, January 17 in Omwake-Dearborn Chapel, celebrated students' achievements in service and scholarship. Dr. Robert Knott, President, convened the College for the spring term, and several individuals and groups were recognized for their achievements this past year. Dr. Jesse McCartney, who is retiring in June as the provost of the College, delivered the convocation address.

Catawba College Renovations Completed; Addition to Cannon Student Center Underway
The major renovations on Catawba College’s campus have been concluded and only construction of a new addition on the Cannon Student Center remains to be completed. Officials anticipate work on the 7,000 square foot addition will wrap-up in June.
Catawba ONE Update
Late in the fall, Catawba community got involved in the ONE Campus Challenge, so that we could send a representative to the Power 100 Summit. Thanks to the involvement of the Catawba community, we rocketed from over 300th place to 14th place in less than two weeks, and secured a spot at the summit.

After a yearlong renovation, staff members of Catawba College's Corriher-Linn-Black Library will host an open house in their newly refurbished space between noon and 3 p.m., Thursday, January 17. Members of both the college and local community are invited to attend the event.

The Young Guns 2008 TEEN Nationwide Online Battle of the Bands and Songwriting Contest is out to change that in a big way. Catawba's Business Advisory Board Announces Leadership
Joey Popp, a 30-year broadcasting veteran, has been elected as the first chair of the Business Advisory Board for the Ralph W. Ketner School of Business at Catawba College. Robert Van Geons, recently named executive director of the Salisbury-Rowan Economic Development Commission, is the new vice-chair. Serving as secretary will be Cecilia Stach, administrative assistant for the math department and Ketner School of Business at Catawba.
Professor of History Receives Referee Emeritus Award from N.C. Volleyball Officials Board
Catawba Professor of History Charles McAllister was recently awarded the first ever Referee Emeritus Award. National referees Wade Brence and Michael O'Connell personally presented the award by the N.C. Volleyball Officials Board of the national Professional Association of Volleyball Officials. The NCVOB supervises the certification and training of collegiate referees in N.C.
