Catawba College Theatre Arts Professor Receives Grant
Dr. Elizabeth "Beth" Homan, an assistant professor of theatre arts at Catawba College, has been awarded a Regional Artist Grant by the Rowan Arts Council. She will use the grant to underwrite the costs of participating in a 2008 program in Italy.
Interested in Martial Arts? Try the Chayon-Ryu Martial Arts Class at Catawba
Kim Soo Karate is a form of the Chayon-Ryu martial arts that allows one to train without injury or fear of being hurt. Master Mitchell, a seventh degree black belt, has taught martial arts for 36 years and at Catawba College for over 22 years. Mitchell trains under one of the most renowned martial arts teachers in the world, Grandmaster Kim Soo, a 10th degree Black Belt.

2007 Catawba College alumnus Joey Yow, who majored in theatre arts, has landed a job working in make-up with Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas, Nevada. He begins his new position in January.

Douglas A. Stanley of Salisbury, a 2004 alumnus of Catawba College, was recently promoted to a programmer/analyst position in Catawba's Computer Services Department. Stanley also recently earned a master's degree in information technology and management from UNC Greensboro.
BEST Students Develop Job Skills on Catawba's Campus
Students from Salisbury High School's BEST (Basic Education Students in Transition) have been visiting Catawba College's campus during fall semester assisting with on-campus recycling efforts. These students, all of whom take part in a program called Community Based Vocation Instruction, are learning work habits, gaining skills and determining job interests in an effort to become competitively employed in the community.

Leonard Pitts, Jr., winner of the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for commentary, will visit Catawba College on Thursday, February 21, 2008 as the featured speaker for the fifth annual Lilly Colloquium. The Lilly Colloquium is sponsored by Catawba College’s Lilly Center for Vocation and Values.
