Highlights of Catawba's 9/27 Nationally Televised Win over Mars Hill
"It might have been the home field advantage, the excitement of a nationally televised game, or a chance to enjoy a game under the lights which brought thousands of Catawba Indians fans to Shuford Stadium Sept. 27 to watch the match-up against Mars Hill College. Fans weren't disappointed with Catawba's 45-21 victory over Mars Hill — a fitting conclusion to all the pre-game hype and an affirmation of the Catawba Indians' 14th place ranking in the AFCA Division II poll.
Dr. Ken Clapp Travels to Maiden, NC to Deliver Homecoming Service

School of Business Celebrates Ralph Ketner's 87th Birthday
Ketner Hall and the Ketner School of Business are named in honor of Ralph W. Ketner, one of the founders and Chairman Emeritus of Food Lion, Inc. Friends and colleagues were there September 20th to help him celebrate his 87th birthday with an impromptu gathering.
Catawba Alumnus to Speak on "Quarterbacking Your Firm"
Catawba College alumnus and owner of The Burdette Smith Group P.C., a CPA firm in Fairfax, Va., Thomas Burdette '73 will speak on "Quarterbacking Your Firm" Thursday, October 18 on the Catawba campus. Burdette's presentation begins at 11 a.m. in Tom Smith Auditorium of the Ralph W. Ketner Building.
Catawba College Theatre Arts Students and Productions Nominated for 2006-2007 Metrolina Theatre Awards
Some Catawba College Theatre Arts students and productions were winners in the 2006-2007 Metrolina Theatre Awards. The fourth annual awards ceremony was held Sept. 16th at McGlohon Theater at Spirit Square in Charlotte.
Catawba College to Host Second Annual Lord Salisbury Marching Band Classic
Marching bands from Rowan and surrounding counties will visit the Catawba College campus on Saturday, October 13 to compete in the Second Annual Lord Salisbury Marching Band Classic. Fifteen marching bands, representing 10 school districts in the state, have registered to participate in the competition which runs from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Oct. 13th in Catawba's Shuford Stadium.
Catawba College Alumna and Colleague to Perform on Campus
Catawba College Alumna Kim Butler '02 of Charlotte, a native of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and her colleague, Kimberly Shive of Charlotte, a native of Greenville, N.C., will perform in a voice recital at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23 in Tom Smith Auditorium on the Catawba campus.
School of Business to Host Inaugural Business Hall of Fame
Catawba College's Ketner School of Business will host its inaugural Business Hall of Fame on Saturday, November 3. Seven individuals will be inducted into the Business Hall of Fame at the event which begins with a 6 p.m. reception, followed by a 6:45 p.m. dinner in Peeler Crystal Lounge of the Robertson College-Community Center on campus.
Theatre Department Presents "The Exonerated"
What if you were convicted of a crime you did not commit then later exonerated before your scheduled execution for that crime? It could happen, did happen, and does happen. The Catawba College Theatre Arts Department's production of "The Exonerated" is a play based on the true stories of six individuals whose lives were irrevocably changed when they were convicted of crimes they did not commit. Seven students and one faculty member from Catawba College are spending fall semester studying abroad at Harlaxton College in Grantham, England. The "across the pond" experience is thanks to a partnership agreement that Catawba has forged with the University of Evansville.
Catawba College Community Plans 9-11 Commemorations
The Catawba College community will commemorate Sept. 11, 2001 in two different ways Tuesday evening — with a free concert, "Bands Not Bombs 2007," and with a worship service of remembrance. As a surplus of 300 Catawba College students crowded into Hedrick Little Theatre on campus Tuesday, Sept. 4, for a simple book revue on the 2007 required first-year common reading, "Mountains Beyond Mountains" by Tracy Kidder, they believed that they were in for a simple, as Dr. Sheila Brownlow, psychology professor, put it, "intellectual introduction to college study." Catawba Campus Construction and Renovations Update
Although the five new residence halls of Abernethy Village are completed and now house upper class students, campus construction projects and renovations are continuing in both the Cannon Student Center and the Corriher-Linn-Black Library. Work to renovate one portion of the Cannon Student Center (Phase I) began in May and was completed at the end of July. The Catawba College Facilities Department is encouraging all members of the college community to start seeing green this academic year. That department is taking a leadership position on campus, advocating recycling, use of sustainable, green, and recycled products, encouraging conservation and waste reduction, and even establishing a new position to coordinate those efforts.

Four Catawba College Mathematics Professors Author Textbook
Four faculty members in the Catawba College Mathematics Department have collaborated to author a textbook being used in two courses this semester. "Principles of Mathematics," a general education text which requires only high school algebra as a prerequisite, is being used in two sections of Mathematics 1601.
Catawba College Commissions Junior Marshals for 2007-2008
Catawba College President Dr. Robert Knott commissioned 15 students as Junior Marshals in a ceremony held Wednesday, August 29 in Omwake-Dearborn Chapel on campus. These Junior Marshals were chosen from the junior class based on academic rank and are among the most honored students on campus. They embody the best of Catawba College both in academic achievement and service to the College community.
Opening Convocation Marks Advent of New Academic Year at Catawba
Various faculty and staff members of the Catawba College community were recognized for their years of service to the institution during fall convocation Thursday, August 30 in Omwake-Dearborn Chapel.
